Best Olympic Headline

The National Post headline this morning reads: Four Medals and Funeral
in response to Canada's four medal wins and the elimination of the men's hockey team by the Russian team.

My friend Mary, who lives in Portland, was complaining about American coverage of the Games - they talked too much, and mostly about personal stories, and when they did show sports it was mostly highlights. It annoyed her that the biggest story always seemed to be how Michelle Kwan might not skate. I watched a bit of King5, a Washington station because they were actually showing the women's aerials while CBC had endless interviews about the hockey loss. US wasn't even in the women's speed skating relay final (Korea, Canada, Italy, China), but they then replayed it with commentary explaining the seemingly chaotic event. Then they had a panel discussion on the women's figure skating short program that day and what to expect the next day. I was surprised to see David Pelletier and Jamie Sale on the panel, but it was still really annoying to listen to the four banter on and on about Slutskaya, Meissner and Hughes -- no mention of any other skaters.

OK, I'm going to get skewered for this: Part of me is glad that Canada is out of Men's Hockey -- it means we'll get to see some other sports!
